Harding Baseball Signs Chase Presley

by Scott Goode

Searcy, Ark. – Chase Presley, a 6-0, 155-pound shortstop from Jackson, Tenn., signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent on Thursday and will join the Harding University baseball team for the 2009 season.

Presley is currently hitting .452 with 11 doubles, 18 runs scored and 21 RBI as a senior at Jackson Christian. He earned all-district and All-West Tennessee as a junior and helped lead the Eagles to the state championship game.

“Chase is a very good defensive shortstop with the athletic ability to play anywhere on the field,” said Harding head coach Dr. Patrick McGaha. “We are most excited; however, by the fact that everyone we talk with says that Chase is one of the top hitters in the state of Tennessee. We like his swing a lot and believe that he will help us tremendously from an offensive standpoint.”

Lions Land Jackson Christian's Blake Taylor

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team recently signed area high school standout Blake Taylor to a scholarship. He will join the team in the fall of 2008.

Taylor, an outfielder, prepped at Jackson Christian School in Jackson, Tenn., where he played for coaches Brian Stewart and Chuck Cooper, both of whom are former members of the Freed-Hardeman baseball team. As a junior, Taylor hit .350 with nine homeruns, 24 RBI, and 11 stolen bases while helping his team to a runner-up finish in the Class A state tournament. During the tournament he hit .333 with a homerun and six RBI.

He was also a starting defensive back on Jackson Christian’s football team that won the Class A state championship in 2006.

“Taylor is a big pick-up for us,” said assistant coach Brent Heavener. “He will help fill a big role with some of the players we are losing. He is a great kid and will be an asset to the FHU baseball team.”

Taylor is the son of Bobby and Kristi Taylor of Humboldt, Tenn.
